Building a Bigger and Better Liberal Currents

The public fundraiser campaign is over. We are now heads down and putting your donations to good use.

Building a Bigger and Better Liberal Currents

I have a few announcements.

First, we are officially wrapping up our public-facing fundraising campaign. Though we did not meet our goal, it was a very ambitious one, and raising over $200,000—40% of our very high goal—is an incredible accomplishment. Our community has shown an unbelievable level of support for and trust in us, and we will work hard to prove they were right to do so.

We'll leave the GoFundMe page up, as it appears to still be attracting donations, and we will be having conversations with grant-issuing organizations and large donors to get the rest of the way to our goal. But we'll stop sending out communications over email and social media about this, and as far as I am concerned this was a tremendous success and it's time to move forward.

Effective this week, I have begun working full time on Liberal Currents. What is more, we are actively working out the budgeting to bring fellow editor and rockstar essayist Samantha Hancox-Li on full time as well. I will talk about this, and more, in greater detail in our State of Liberal Currents newsletter, the next issue of which will come out at the beginning of April. You can receive those if you sign up at our Community Subscriber tier or higher.

For now, we are heads down building a bigger and better Liberal Currents. One way we're looking to bridge the gap to our goal is by applying for grants for The Reconstruction Papers specifically. We've in the meantime been hard at work gathering contributors for that project and doing our research on the print run aspect of it. The publication schedule has been regularized, and both free and paid subscribers have been given much more granular control over what they will receive in their emails. If you just want to receive our three articles, one essay, and two podcasts per week, you can unsubscribe from everything beyond that, for example.

In short, we are moving from boosting a public fundraiser to shifting our entire focus to delivering what we promised we'd work on this year.

Thank you for making this possible. Now it's time for us to do our part.
