Ultimate Victory Will Require an American Reconstruction
Spread the word.
At the end of 2025 I predicted that we are going to win against Donald Trump, against the Republican Party, against whoever they field in 2028. They will not consolidate an authoritarian regime by 2029. We will beat them at the ballot box.
At the same time I emphasized that "we have a much bigger victory that we need to be aiming for."
We need to Reconstruct this country. We must put liberal democracy on the right footing to face the challenges of the era we live in. We need to fight for the liberal future rather than just clinging to the imperfectly and unstably liberal past.
We had already promised to deliver The Reconstruction Papers, a collection of essays aiming to provide a program precisely to put liberal democracy on the right footing for the long term. This past week, we finalized it and sent it to our printer, and opened up pre-orders in the US.
Our printer has estimated that it will take 15-21 business days to complete our order. People's copies will then begin to ship after that.
By June 22, we plan to have a print-on-demand solution set up for our readers outside of the US that wish to order a copy of their own.
On June 29, we will be releasing the complete PDF to the public, free of charge.
Nevertheless, we urge you to support this project by ordering print copies today.
First, this collection is beautifully designed for print and I guarantee you will enjoy the experience of holding it in your hands and flipping through it.

Second, putting a printed product out into the world is a strategy in our effort to supplant the usual crowd's tepid attempts to offer their own versions of this. We want to get this into the hands of as many people in the media, the policy space, and politics as we can. And one way we can do that is by giving our readers and supporters copies which they can the people they know—including people in those lines of work.
Of course we will be doing so directly as well, and indeed already have been. But we're hoping you'll join us in the effort. The stakes of getting this right are very high, and we are competing in a crowded field against far larger, better connected, and better funded players. If you trust us to deliver something more suitable for our moment than they will, we could use your help.
