Our Redesign Is Live!

I am very excited to announce a new look and feel for the website.

This was high on the list of things we wanted to accomplish once the first few days of the fundraiser went well. We ended up going through a rebranding first, because it made logical sense. The brand style guide our designers developed for that ended up being put to use not just for this web redesign, but for the design of The Reconstruction Papers as well. Having that visual language has been incredibly valuable, and well worth the wait to get to the overall redesign.

The company that we used to do this is Obox, and they were wonderful to work with. They came up with an approach that didn't blow our budget but, I hope you will agree with me, is of a very high quality.

We moved from Wordpress to Ghost about four years ago for largely prosaic reasons. It wasn't even to take advantage of its newsletter function, which sat unused our first year on the platform. As Substack grew in dominance, some pressure emerged to move over to there. Ghost had some apparent limitations, and Substack had the better network, or so the story goes.

When we launched our fundraiser I began to more seriously explore what could be done with Ghost, and was very impressed with the ecosystem that had grown around the platform.

First we started using Outpost, which helped us to drastically improve our signup rate and offers a level of customization that you cannot get on Substack. And now we've had Obox customize an existing Ghost template with our branding and other design preferences.

You don't have to run your publication on Substack to succeed; many examples can be found on Ghost or on beehiiv (see The Handbasket for an example of the latter).

We're quite pleased with the end result of the months of work that have gone into making a better, more beautiful Liberal Currents, and we hope you are too.
