The Message Is Getting Out There. We Need Your Help to Make a New Reconstruction Possible

One of the goals of The Reconstruction Papers is simply to advance our general mission of giving liberals a better understanding of their values, and to encourage them to expand what they imagine can be achieved.

But the main goal was to reach and influence actual policymakers who will potentially be in a position to enact ambitious reforms after 2028.

This was always a difficult proposition. None of us are insiders of any kind: not in media, not in politics, not even in the academy. We do not have big billionaire donors in the wings, pouring in resources and generally opening doors for us. Everything we have done, we have done because of the Liberal Currents community, a community of quite ordinary liberals, and the support you have shown us in countless ways.

Every so often I get more evidence that we are in fact making headway on our goal of reaching policymakers.

The latest comes from Vox, where an article by Zack Beauchamp on plans for 2029 makes reference to us:

Multiple sources pointed to The Reconstruction Papers, an essay collection published by the magazine Liberal Currents, as a place containing specific policy proposals that people in 2029 circles are taking seriously.

It's a tantalizing remark—what people? How many? But I will take it as a positive sign that we're making inroads in the right places.

We can do more. There is still plenty of time before a potential 2029 trifecta could consider any of these things. And I truly believe that our second issue of The Reconstruction Papers will only increase the pull we have within these circles.

To get to that point, we need your help. If you are reading this and are not a paid subscriber, consider redeeming our subscriber drive deal today.

It has been an incredible year so far, since the Startup Fund gave us a chance to transform the publication into a truly professionalized organization.

But we have a ways to go still to make it reliably pay for itself through our subscriber base. We're growing every day—indeed, our paying subscribers have grown 223% over the course of the year—but it's not enough, not if we want to have a shot at truly changing the narrative on the liberal side in the next two years, such that a new Reconstruction was truly on the table.

Please do not hesitate to subscribe today. You can redeem our subscriber drive deal for $60 with all that entails, or our Major Subscriber deal for $150 instead of the usual $300.

Or you can subscribe at a lower tier, donate, or give a gift subscription.

Thank you for making all of this possible. Let's keep up the good fight.
